New Transformers Characters Raise Questions of Racism

Some moviegoers believe two of the new robots in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen are more than meets the eye.

Skids and Mudflap, a pair of robot twins meant to provide comic relief, are being called racial caricatures, according to the Associated Press. The pair, which constantly bicker using street slang, admit they cannot read, and one of them has a gold tooth.

The new characters have already drawn comparison to Jar Jar Binks, the broken-English-speaking alien from Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace that many fans labeled as a stereotype. But director Michael Bay insists jive-talking twin robots were only meant for laughs.

"It's done in fun," he said. "I don't know if it's stereotypes — they are robots, by the way. These are the voice actors. This is kind of the direction they were taking the characters and we went with it."

Mudflap is voiced by black actor Reno Wilson, while Tom Kenny — a white actor who also voices SpongeBob Squarepants — provides the voice of Skids. Wilson said he never thought of the characters — which uploaded what they know about humans from the Internet — as racial stereotypes.

"It's an alien who uploaded information from the Internet and put together the conglomeration and formed this cadence, way of speaking and body language that was accumulated over X amount of years of information and that's what came out," he said. said. "If he had uploaded country music, he would have come out like that. It could easily be a Transformer that uploaded Kevin Federline data. They were just, like, posers to me."

Controversy or not, the film opened to the tune of $60.6 million Wednesday, the highest Wednesday opening of all time, according to Variety. Bay said he isn't worried about the bad buzz.

"Listen, you're going to have your naysayers on anything," he said. "It's like, is everything going to be Melba toast? It takes all forms and shapes and sizes."

Tonight CNN is airing Part 2 of the series Black in America. The series premiered almost a year ago and was heavily scrutinized for it's lack of acknowledgment to the Middle Class of African American that are not below the poverty line but not wealthy either.
Soledad O'Brien is normally on point so I wonder where she takes it this time.Here are the previous parts to the Story if u missed Part 1.

FLASHBACK.....

TEEN FALLS ASLEEP DURING FACE TATTOO

In the general category of "OMG," this Belgian teenager supposedly fell asleep while getting her face tattooed and woke up to 56 Rihanna-style stars on her face. Now, she's suing the tattoo artist, claiming he misunderstood her. The artist counters that Starface is only peeved because her boyfriend dumped her after seeing the monstrosity.

Um, how do you "doze off" while getting your face inked? Getting a tattoo isn't like going to the meditation room at the Four Seasons. It's loud. There's drilling. It also hurts. A lot. Lastly, it's your face.

Plus, getting tattoos removed hurts almost as bad, leaves scars and takes ages, so there's no real (laser) light at the end of this tunnel.

Regardless of who's telling the truth, the lesson here is that when you're permanently inking something on your bod, it's your responsibility to stay awake to make sure the tattoo artist doesn't "misunderstand" anything.

In less than one week, the San Francisco 8 - former Black Panthers and other activists - will have a preliminary hearing in San Francisco. They are being charged with the murder of a police officer in 1971. The charges are based on confessions extracted by torture, and it is clear that the indictments against these men are an attempt to rewrite the history of the Black Panthers and the gains of the Civil Rights movement. Take action today and support the San Francisco 8. In 1973, New Orleans police employed torture over the course of several days to obtain information from members of the Black Panthers about the death of Sergeant John Young, an officer of the San Francisco Police Department. The men were stripped naked, beaten, blindfolded, covered in blankets soaked with boiling water and had electric probes placed on their genitals, among other methods. In 1974, a court ruled that both San Francisco and New Orleans police officers had engaged in torture to extract a confession, and a San Francisco judge dismissed charges against three men in 1975 based on that ruling.
In January 2007, eight elder activists - Richard Brown, Richard O'Neal, Ray Boudreaux, Hank Jones, Francisco Torres, Harold Taylor, Herman Bell and Jalil Muntaqim - were arrested after a grand jury convened in San Francisco to reopen the case.
The state Attorney General of California initiated the prosecution of the San Francisco 8, and he is the person who has the power to stop it. Put the pressure on and write Attorney General Jerry Brown to demand the charges against these activists be dropped.
Stand for justice and support the San Francisco 8 today.

NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous was on the latest edition of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher (A panel show about politics)on June 12,2009 rocking an iamtroy.com tee-shirt and putting the issues of the Gross Misconduct of Justice currently taking place to one of our Brothers down in Savannah,GA on the dinner tables of MILLIONS.(He gets into it at about 6:30 on the video.)
There is no physical evidence linking Troy to the crime and seven of the nine eyewitnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimonies. Some say they were coerced to lie by Savannah police.Troy has been on death row 18 years.

Concepts Presents The Nike SB Blue Lobster!

The Blue Lobster Dunk will drop at Concepts on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 11:00 am.

The Blue Lobster Dunk serves as the sequel to last summer’s original Lobster Dunk, a Nike SB that first made waves on May 31, 2008. The first “Lobster” was shipped and promoted by the “Concepts Fishing Company,” and came equipped with a poster, lobster claw rubber band, tee shirt and condiment box (replete with lobster shell cracker, fork, bib, wet nap and “butter” shoelaces) all embossed with the “Concepts Fishing Company” logo. The first 50 pairs sold were available in ultra-limited edition packaging, with all of the above-mentioned bundled up in an authentic Concepts wooden lobster trap.
