Buju Banton banned for "Batty Boy" Lyrics?!?!

The First Amendment of the Constitution expressly states that in the Bill of Rights Freedom of Speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation. So why is it That in Jamaica where Homosexuality is illegal and in the U.S.A. where we are free to say what we want,is ANYBODY being banned from performing their craft due to the Lyrics of a song that came out in 1988?!?
Banton was scheduled for a seven-city tour this fall that would have brought him to the House of Blues in Chicago on Oct. 1. But promoter and House of Blues owner Live Nation called off all his appearances at their venues, the Windy City Times reported. Another promoter, AEG Live/Goldenvoice, canceled the three concerts they were promoting.

Earlier this month, activists from Chicago's Gay Liberation Network began a campaign calling for a cancellation of the tour over what they called "murder music."

YOU Better Like IT!!!!!

Photobucket

There's alot of money being shelled out right now to make you think you like IT!!!!! It's the art of marketing. Pay these channels, artists and other influencial outlets to flood the market so that people are FORCED to not only acknowledge something but to also grow(thru constant stimulus) to like it. If your only choices are red, yellow and green, eventually you will grow to like red, yellow and green because you are not exposed to the rest of the rainbow of colors out there, plus corporations and the powers that be know that the majority of you are not intelligent enough to make your own decisions without being spoonfed constantly. They bank on it.

I've been making this observation for years. Years before the radio stations even admitted to accepting payola. They have set playlists and that is where the rules come in. I'm making this post because I also see the blogosphere going in the same direction. There are coalitions forming which will eventually play the role of gatekeeper to regulate what you are allowed to see and hear. I understand that some of you are saying "impossible", there are too many blogs popping up daily to ever regulate. True, but at the same time, the MAJOR blogs are undeniable. The traffic is king. Just as the ad space and corporate sponsorship is also king. That dollar sign is the bottom line. We are in revolutionary times where various industries(not just entertainment) are trying to make sure that there is still a level of CONTROL. Just some thoughts I've been having as I've been seeing the manipulation of the public in regards to the artist "Drake". There are forces at work here behind the scenes that I can't quite put my finger on just yet, but I know that they are there. Just seeing if any one else's third eye picked up a certain frequency of late as we are watching what's going on around us.

I do feel that the blogs should not unify and form a coalition and that this is dangerous in the long run because this outlet is untapped and should be showing the freedom of expression and full potential which has not yet been reached, instead of unifying and staying inside the box. There is power in independence. When things can be regulated and contained that power is lost. There are forces at work here, keep your eyes opened.

REAL TV,radio etc...

Photobucket

OK VH1,BET,MTV,NBC,ABC,FOX NEWS,CNN,HBO any network you want to think of.......How they depict black folks is sickening these days and it's not how they are depicting us it's how we act. I looked at Real and Chance and the T.O show last night and was totally disgusted. Reality TV it's called basically because it mirrors reality. That's how people act. The energy is so low level it's hard for me to relate and wanna be around people like that. People so caught up stressing over unimportant menial shit......It keeps the conversation levels to a minimum. We feed the fucking beast.....so when it's fat we can only look at ourselves. There is no fucking control because fame is such an addiction it sucks people in and has them fiending for it. It's worse than crack because folks don't just sell the TV and get high, they sell their souls to get on TV to get by. It turns people into fucking demons and caricatures of themselves and brings out the worst of their nature. Instead of seeing that crackhead blending into the shadows of the street corner, these junkies are illuminated on the TV in front of millions. In a lot of places these are the only interactions that cultures have with black folks. It isn't just what the media would print in their newspapers years ago, it's Frankie and Neffie or Tiny and Toya acting like fucking imbeciles........no substance, even with being monetarily straight, they come across as sick, ignorant people. It may seem like I'm on a rant and maybe I am, but this is just the effect of seeing black women screaming into a TV camera at me for the past few hours........I have always felt as tho' we have no POWEr, because we don't. There are not enough of us united to force a change. You know why? It's because some of us who have the power and intllect and political pull to change are also invested and intermingled with the same things we are railing against. We could go to war, then turn around and your being fired on from all sides. I knew a dj years ago who was a backpacker before he turned "GANGSTA" and I actually have some of his mixtapes that featured artists like Kweli and Mos Def amongst others, his newer material has featured strictly artists like Gucci Mane and Souljah Boy and other low level energy and intelligence mufuckas.....I remember him telling me years ago that he had to do waht he had to do to feed his seeds, which I respected. This individual also said that he had to play the game just so that he could eventually usher in positivity and do his own thing.......This has not happened and this person has probably been made to "sacrifice" to keep his standard of living up. You think that now that he's made it he's thinking about the struggle? or doing something to stop the current trend of bullshit keeping intelligence at an all time low? Hell No, he's embracing it, glad to be a part of that party.

I recently listened to about 3 or 4 new tracks that Jay Z has coming out and you think he has elevated the game? Hell no!!! Even with Death of Autotune, which is a revolutionary statement against it's usage and the current ultra tight jeans and overfeminized males in our culture, he still backpeddled. If anything he's dressing in tighter jeans and is embracing the folks who use autotune. This is the problem. We may move forward, but at the same time we move two steps backwards. It is in no ones interest to disturb the status quo. The artists who gain power know that they have to keep silent to maintain their status. This has to do with the whole industry. Politics is a part of it as well. If someone goes against the grain and tries to make waves they can easily be destroyed(via the media) and quickly replaced. History has shown that even multi multi miliionares can be brought to their knees, imprisoned, impoverished and forgotten about. A crack high can literally last longer than a Fame high. Think about people who were hot in 2007 or 2006 who have dissappeared from your memory or think about actors and artists that you have randomly thought about an said "what happened to?" This is happening so much it's becoming a science. Yet it's allure draws in so many people who may be lacking respect, love or attention in their lives and see getting fame and some money as the way to rectify it. They don't study the lessons of those who have gone before them and gained what they've craved only to feel lonelier and more empty than when they first started. These are the spiritually poor. These are the people who think all they have to do is to show out and embrace ignorance to gain that acceptance. The true sell out, because they know better, but they also know well enough not to rock the boat to maintain the status. With millions of dollars and no freedom these are worse than house or field niggers, they are imprisoned within and not just on a physical plantation. When a horse is trained you can just wrap the rope around the pole without tying it and it will not move to break free because it sees the rope. It won't even try to back away for fear that it will hurt it's neck because it is bound.

The Power of the fluid

Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.

The following is from Jeff Yang, "Bruce Lee," in Eastern Standard Time: A Guide to Asian Influence on American Culture, eds. Jeff Yang et al. (Boston/New York: Meridian/Houghton Mifflin, 1997),

Water
Produced by Lex Boogie From the Bronx for New Clothez Productions

Water from Lex Boogie on Vimeo.

fundamentals from Bruce Lee.

1. What are you really thinking about today?

“As you think, so shall you become.”

Perhaps the most basic statement of how we work. Think about what you are thinking today. What do those thoughts say about you? About your life? And how well do they really match your plans for your life and your image of yourself?

It’s easy to forget about this simple statement in everyday life. It’s easy to be quite incongruent with what you think on an ordinary day compared to how you view yourself and your goals. A simple external reminder such as a post-it with this quote can be helpful to keep you and your thoughts on the right track. An brilliant and beautiful expansion on this thought can be found in James Allen’s As a man thinketh (that can be downloaded for free here).

2. Simplify.

“It’s not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential.”

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.”

If you want to improve your life then it’s tempting to want to add more. One problem with this may be that you don’t really have the time or energy to do more though. And so your efforts to improve become short-lived.

Adding more and more just creates more stress and anxiety. Removing clutter and activities, tasks and thoughts that are not so important frees up time and energy for you to do more of what you really want to do. And as the clutter in your outer world decreases the clutter in your inner world also has a tendency to decrease. This has the added benefit of making it easier to actually enjoy whatever you are doing even more while you are doing it.

Adding more thoughts and thinking things over for the 111:th time may create a sense of security. It’s also a good way to procrastinate and to avoid taking that leap you know you should take. And the more you think, the harder it gets to act. Perhaps because you want to keep that comforting sense of security and avoid the risk of wrecking that feeling.

Thinking has its place. It can help you plan a somewhat realistic route to your goal and help you avoid future pitfalls. Overthinking is however just a habit that will help you waste a lot of time. It’s more useful to replace that habit with the habit of just doing it.

3. Learn about yourself in interactions.

“To know oneself is to study oneself in action with another person.”

The one person that is the hardest to get to really know may be yourself. Studying yourself while you are alone may result in some insights. But it’s also likely to produce a lot of made up thought loops and doubts in your mind. A good way to really learn more about yourself is study yourself in interactions with other people. How people react and act in these interaction can over time teach you a lot. And what you think and how you react can perhaps teach you even more.

What you see, feel and hear in other people may be a reflection of you. The things you learn by thinking this way may not always be pleasant, but they can be enlightening. They help you to see yourself and also how you may be fooling yourself. And these powerful insights can be very valuable for your personal growth. So, in interactions with others, try asking yourself: what is reflected?

4. Do not divide.

“Take no thought of who is right or wrong or who is better than. Be not for or against.”

This is a very useful and powerful thought. It is also one that obviously is hard to live by. Why? I believe it’s because the ego loves to divide and find ways to “add more” to itself. It want’s to feel better than someone else. Or more clever. Or prettier. Or cooler. Or wiser.

How can you overcome this way of thinking and feeling?

To me it seems to boil down to not identifying so much with your thoughts or feelings. That doesn’t mean that you stop thinking or feeling. It just means that you realize – and remember in your everyday life – that the thoughts and emotions are just things flowing through you.

You are not them though.

You are the consciousness observing them.

When you realize and remember this it enables you to control the thoughts and feelings instead of the other way around. It also enables you to not take your thoughts too seriously and actually laugh at them or ignore them when you feel that your ego is acting out. When you are not being so identified these things you become more inclined to include things, thoughts and people instead of excluding them. This creates a lot of inner and outer freedom and stillness. Instead of fear, a need to divide your world and a search for conflicts.

To learn more about this I would recommend Eckhart Tolle’s books and signing up for the 10 free and excellent webcasts - available both in video and audio form – that he’s doing with Oprah right now.

5. Avoid a dependency on validation from others.

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”

“Showing off is the fool’s idea of glory.”

The ego wants to add because it thinks it’s not enough. One way of doing that is by craving validation from others. We want to feel smart, pretty, successful and so on. And the validation makes you feel good for a while. But soon you need a new fix.

And the problem with being dependent on validation from other people is that you let other people control how you feel. This creates a rollercoaster of emotion in your life.

To find more emotional stability and to take control of how you feel you need to get your validation from to a more consistent source. Yourself. You can replace the expectations and validation of others by setting your own expectations and by validating yourself.

And so you validate yourself by thinking about how awesome you are. You don’t sell yourself short. You appreciate how far you have come and the positive things you have done. You appreciate your own value in the world. You set goals and you achieve those goals. This builds confidence in yourself and in your abilities. These things will help you to build a habit of inner validation.

Now, showing off. Why do we do that? To get validation from others. However, this need for validation often shines through and that is why a thing like bragging seldom works. Instead of seeing the cool and successful person you are trying to project people just see the insecure and needy person looking for validation. And your bragging falls flat.

6. Be proactive.

“To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities.”

It’s easy to get locked into a reactive mindset. You just follow along with whatever is happening. You do what the people around you do. You react to whatever is going on.

And so you get lost in your circumstances. This way of thinking doesn’t feel too good. You tend to feel powerless and like you are just drifting along.

A more useful and pleasurable way of living is to be proactive. As Bruce says: to create opportunities despite the circumstances around you. This feels better and provides better results. But on the other hand it’s also more difficult. It’s easier to just drift along in the reactive stream of life. And if you want to be proactive then you may have to take the lead quite often. And that can be scary.

Still, living proactively is so much more rewarding and exciting.

7. Be you.

“Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.”

Just being yourself is a hard thing to do. You may do it sometimes. And other times you may forget or fall back into old thought patterns. Or you may imitate someone else.

And that comes through too. And it may work.

But I believe that being the real you will work better. Because there the genuine you is shining through. Without incongruency, mixed messages or perhaps a sort of phoniness. It’s you to 100%. It’s you with not only your words but you with your voice tonality and body language – which some say is over 90% of communication - on the same wavelength as your words. It’s you coming through on all channels of communication.

So I’m not saying: “yeah man, you should just be yourself because it’s the right thing to do etc.” I’m saying that I think being your authentic self – the one where you do little dividing, the one that needs little validation from others, the one where your ego is not running the show and trying to get something from someone – will give you better results and more satisfaction in your day to day life because you are in alignment with yourself. And because people really like genuine and people really like authenticity.

New Chris Rock Trailer,Good Hair

Is this what HOV is on now?!?!

I thought Oprah didn't like Rappers or Hip-Hop...I distinctly remember Oprah showing her ass as Ludacris was on her show,as an actor...not a rapper! Now she is all up in the hood with Jay-Z visiting his Grandmother's old house in Brooklyn?!?!?
The Book Jay-Z has in his hand is "A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose", written by Eckhart Tolle. Not only is Oprah promoting this man(Tolle)through her show and book club but she also did a web cast of where 2 million people logged on and went under trance.Tolle admits he has no religious ties and states "the new heaven is the inner".It will be interesting to see how Hov's introduction to Tolle will blend into the music we hear from the BluePrint 3,scheduled for release on Sept.11,2009 and.It is Jay-Z's first studio album not to feature him on the cover.

pause this video at 6:13 to see the book

Question:If you have been around Hip-Hop or practiced, performed &profited off of it,are you a sell out if you get on some new shit? Tell us what you think.

We (thegrittycommittee)started not to post this video if not for the pure ignorance of it all but for the fact that we touched on the Willie Lynch Syndrome in July (by posting the entire speech he gave to the Slave owners on the Appomattox River some 300 years ago.)Though, for the fact that we still have nay-sayers that contend that the speech was dispelled as a rumor, the document didn't exist etc... The fact remains that this thinking came from somewhere.Whether it was from Willie Lynch himself,Slave Owners,House Niggers,or Field Niggers this way of thinking has become a chromosome embedded in the hearts and minds of the African American People and passed down through generations. It is something that we don't need to discuss with Caucasians because their actions have been explained by saying blacks were enslaved because they were inferior...we need to ask ourselves why are we still falling victim to this enslaved thinking and why are we still sensationalizing it up to this point....AGAIN Wake Up People!!!!

1)Tell us about yourself?
I'm a man of many names and a few things to a lot of
different people. I would say that I'm a professional thinker. I'm a
writer and a person who gives tastemakers their "taste". I play the
background as an anti industry conneissuer, basically a rennassaince
man from the Live era where your respect was everything and your name
was earned legitimately. I always been in HipHop culture and was born
and raised in Philadelphia, although I moved to Jersey and Atlanta. I
earned alot of scars out there avoiding something worse. I'm a lil too
masculine these days I'm Anti-Watery in a day and age when most
writers artists and musicians are extra feminine, eyeliner and tight
tight jeans and wild feminine colors....

2.What musical artists influenced your musical taste?
I was born in the 70's grew up in the 80's and matured in the
90's....My tastes are eccentric but authentic. Too many songs and
musicians shaped me. I can listen to it all from Dionne Warwick to
Billy Idol to Bad Brains to Brazillian Jazz to ALL HipHop
East,West,South,Midwest etc....... I've been blessed to have met most
of the cats who influenced me directly too. KRS 1,Kool Keith, Rakim,
Chuck D...I've been fortunate enough to build with these brothers to
different degrees and soak up gems from them. Most of the time it
wasn't on no music shit either, it was just true real regular people
shit..............As far as soundtracks to life, I would say, Ice
Cube, Wutang especially Purple Tape, Nas, BIG, Redman,D.I.T.C and my
favorite artist Gil Scott Heron.

3.What are some upcoming projects that you are working on?
As far as upcoming projects and this is the funny thing with me, is
that I love art but I like doing things that people don't know I did
or had a part in..... Artistically I roll with a tight knit family
organization Broady Champs, The Winners Circle, the Gritty Committee,
Invizzibl Men and affiliated with real grilchy characters
internationally repping all walks of life....matter fact,I'm trying to
perfect the art of life. There is a mixtape called Bloodlust part 2
coming down the pike soon tho'.
I'm having fun. I'm not rapping to be a "rapper". I'm rhyming because
I was really one of them authentic early 90's grimy hallways kids who
was rapping as part of the culture, dressing getting fly, gambling,
drinking 40's, smoking L's and waxing poetic about the life of a
intelligent young black male in America. HipHop is my culture, but I'm
definitely not a "rapper". I'm multifaceted with HipHop culture, plus
I do shit and be a places a "rapper" person wouldn't do or be
at...Everything I do is HipHop tho', that includes grocery shopping or
walking my dog.

4) How important is sneaker culture to you?
As far as sneaker culture, sheeeit! Fly gear is an element of HipHop
culture....I been getting it in with the fly kicks and flavor hats
before niggas was rocking Starter Jackets.....I be hearing these kids
talking bout fitteds and sneakers in 2009 but they ain't talking to
me....I done thrown away more fly shit than alot of these kids will
ever cop....me and my brother was broady in truth back day, rocking
Jordans in the 90's that's why I can't play em like that now......Been
on all flavors tho' had some flavor ass Diadoras and Asics, some
Filas,Reebok Pumps, all them shits.....now I'm older it's about fly
Dunk SB's and some semi rare joints.....I love my original Bo Jackson
Crosstrainers, I love my Tokyo SB's, my Air Max 90's, my Undefeateds,
I got a gang of sneakers........don't sleep on them Tims tho'....I'll
still pull out some classic Tims, tho I have some futuristic rubber
goretex joints.I stays on my Polo and Nikes tho...I'm the type of dude
who will go shop in Cali, Philly, NY or overseas and cop some shit,
then won't rock it til a year later.

5) How can people get in touch with you?
People can check thegrittycommittee.com blog I'm connected with, they
can check the myspace/marqspekt altho I haven't been there for a good
minute. I'm actually falling back off the net a little bit. Go through
a different transition.....I always been like that...That's why I was
always a good gambler. I knew when to leave the table. I'm not dissing
the internets at all, it's just that when I go into a different
chamber I go all the way there. Plus this whole shit has gotten so
watery to me it's like "yeah I hear you, but I really don't want to".
I'm good with my close knit circle....I'm not hustling trees or
getting grimy, my space is a million miles away from where I was years
ago.....Plus I'm allergic to the fake ass networking and hollywood
shit. People fuck with me because I'm me, not who I know or what
connections they can get.......I aint gotta pretend, wifey's a
diamond, the whip is luxury, the dog is American Bulldog, the house is
within Atlanta City Limits with a nice slice of backyard and I'm out
of state or out the country frequently on the low.........the fuck I
gotta politic with anybody for?.....I gotta compete with my pops beat
him by retiring by 50....My planet is in a whole different galaxy from
these mothafuckas......very few cats even keep my attention.

6) What do you think hip hop is missing in this current state?
HipHop is missing masculinity.....It's real over feminized and homo
right now....It's missing that chamber I come from, that rugged
shit....Champion Hoody shit....that shit that makes these suckers
uncomfortable.....I don't want them getting comfy....I want them to
feel like theres still that grilchy ass sound out there...That filthy
shit. That Louis V sneaker shit aint where it's at for me.....Niggas
rocking leotards like that shit is high fashion and shit....Type of
shit you gotta wonder if these cats is really gay shit.......Nah, the
game needs Men acting like Men......not men getting in touch with they
feminine side....Men who are intimidating.......not wearing cologne
with they soft ass handshakes....niggas hands feel like a feather
duster....I can't take that shit..That ain't even my energy. I got
some things coming, writing and art and so forth, but if I don't get
that real inspiration I ain't doing it. I ain't gotta force
anything, soon as I go out on the field I feel like I already won.

Gritty Public Service Announcement:Sudan issues 40 Lashes for Tight Jeans

Scores of protesters gathered outside a Sudanese courtroom Tuesday as the trial of a woman who faces 40 lashes for wearing clothes deemed indecent was postponed. At the time of her arrest, al-Hussein said she was wearing pants that police deemed too tight, a blouse they said was too sheer...Back up...arrested for wearing Tight Pants???? And these "Grown Ass Men" runnin around on some tight up shyt?!?!
Yo,Like Denzel said in Training Day,"I'm putting cases on all you biatchesss",lol and instead of 40 lashes I am recommending 80 and an additional 10 if accompanied by high tops, and an additional 10 if a mo-hawk with gold dye or extensions is present.

NOW BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING...
