Passport Fees on the RISE...Again!

Here is a breakdown of the current fees and the proposed increases:
Passport Book
Adults
Application: $100 (now) $135 (increased)
Renewal: $75 (now) $110 (increased)
Children under 16
Application/Renewal: $85 (now) $105 (increased)
Passport Card Application
Adults: $45 (now) $55 (increased)
Children under 16: $35 (now) $40 (increased)
Family of Four
Total Cost to Apply: $398 (now) $508 (increased)
Total Cost to Renew: $348 (now) $458 (increased)
This rule proposes adjustments in current fees for consular services. The Department of State is adjusting the fees in light of an independent cost of service study's (``CoSS') findings that the U.S. Government is not fully covering its costs for providing these services under the current fee structure. The primary objective of the adjustments to the Schedule of Fees is to ensure that fees for consular services reflect costs to the United States of providing the services.
The deadline for public discussion is March 9th. After that the State Department can raise the fees if they want to.

Damn Shamoo??
Tillikum, the 12,000 pound whale that grabbed trainer Dawn Brancheau by her ponytail and held her underwater, will continue to be involved in SeaWorld shows and will not be "subject to punishment in any form," said Jim Atchinson, president of SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment.[PAUSE]
How do you punish a WHALE???? Release it back into it's nature habitat? Now there's a thought?!? The funny thing is that it's reported the trainer lost sight of the environment she was in...Ummm,maybe the whale was HUNGRY?!?!

Oh this is what happend to cartoons..."Freaknik The Musical"
Auto-Tune king T-Pain has produced an animated homage to 1990’s Atlanta Spring Break fiesta Freaknik, which is scheduled to air on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim on March 7.
The one-hour special, ‘Freaknik: The Musical,’ took Pain two years to create, and features vocal appearances by Lil Wayne (playing Jesus), Snoop Dogg, Keri Hilson, Kelis, Big Boi, Rick Ross, George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. Saturday Night Live comedians Andy Samberg and Bill Hader also round out the bill. T-Pain also voices “a party ghost.”
‘Freaknik’ focuses on a group of students hoping to revive the party, which at one point attracted more than 250,000 people, until it was shut down in the late 90’s.

Do the Knowledge 222

Peace to the God Clarence 13X
Born February 22,1928 in Danville,VA Allah began to preach his own version of NOI teachings in the streets of Harlem, and later other cities, gaining supporters among the youths attracted to his speaking style.
Clarence 13X taught that eighty-five percent of the population is made up of ignorant, unlearned and uncivilized people who need to be led. This eighty-five percent are believed to have no "knowledge of self".
Ten percent of the population have some knowledge of self [i.e. the real truth], however, they use this knowledge to wield control over the eighty-five percent vs. "liberating" them.
Lastly, he considered the remaining five percent to be those who thought/believed like himself and his followers. The "poor, righteous teachers", the ones who do possess knowledge of themselves, their origins, and the way the world system really is and additionally, the way in which the new world order will come about. Their job/mission is to educate the eighty-five percent to what this hidden or veiled knowledge really is.He was killed in his housing project on June 13,1969.

Included in the book are transcripts of several actual interviews with Clarence 13X himself. In those interviews, his thoughts, opinions and ideas regarding leadership and the movement are on display. As the founder, most visible head and unquestioned leader of the movement, this perspective is essential to understanding the Five Percenters. You can even observe the unique speaking style and cadence in just reading the interviews and the words of others in their descriptions of “Ciphers” held with “The Father” as he is affectionately called.

Gritty Malcolm X Artwork
The gifts that Malcolm X left in the world are insurmountable. The knowledge that he left through his way of life and many speeches, said eloquently enough to reach a student in Harvard and Gritty enough to reach the masses of disenfranchised and mis- educated people of color in the 1960's will live forever in our hearts and minds. The interpretations of these artist from different places and walks of life are a staple of that.

Black Farmers get Reparations
Reparations have been the subject of a lot of controversy for years because every time a new candidate that is seeking the black vote takes the stage...black folk take a chance and ask,"what about reparations?"
Well, the Obama Administration addressed that issue by announcing a 1.25 billion settlement to resolve charges by thousands of Black farmers who say for decades they were shunned by the Department of Agriculture when applying for loans. I know,I know when you hear the word "Reparations" you feel like all your problems are solved, but don't quit your day job just yet the 40 acres and a mule you are anticipating may not be up for discussion until Obama's next term.Peep the Full Story here

Juice Oranges First, then Grapefruit,Celery and Lastly Pineapple (Rhine Included).
Fill a Blender with about 2 cups of ice Then add Juiced Contents. Crush Ice then Blend to desired consistency.Remove and Enjoy!
Benefits: Citrus fruits although high in acid are a good source of Vitamin C.The half of Grapefruit alone provides six grams of fiber,Vitamin C and is rich in Lycopene.Alone it's enough to jump start your metabolism and mixed with the Orange is the equivalent of a morning cup of coffee. This combination will give you a boost and soon after drinking it you will notice that your energy levels will be at peak further into your day.

JayZ on how "We Are The World" is an Untouchable Record
As of lately it has been harder and harder for us to co-sign anything Hov says, but We agree 100% with his views on why he was not apart of the "We Are the World" remix for Haiti Relief.Gotta luv how he goes on to say his song "STRANDED" is a better representation though.Always Business with Hov.
Jugrnaut from Arkatech Beatz Tells Why U Arent Getting Paid for Your Beats

We get a lot of email from up and coming/new producers asking the same question...
How do you go about getting paid for your beats/tracks, and what should I charge?
This here can pose as a semi tough question. While I can't tell you what you should charge, I can sure as hell tell you what you shouldn’t be charging.
You know the drill; you sit in front of the cpu/sequencer/keyboard/drum machine, whatever and wait for it to happen.
Creating a beat/track isn’t the easiest thing to do, and if you're like us, you take pride and time to do what you do best.
Then you spend more time marketing the music, getting it to the right artist, writers to get the song recorded. All of this is the great part about doing music, but it can also be extremely frustrating and time consuming.
Now the song is done. Sometimes the artists are so excited they put it out on mixtapes, they start to perform them at their shows, post them on facebook, myspace, twitter, etc. So where does all of this leave the producer?
If you're not careful, it can leave you with ZERO.
Music is intellectual property (creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce). - The great thing about it, is that you do the work once and it keeps earning for you over time, which are royalties whether it be production royalties, or publishing royalties. If a producer does a record that isn't published (released commercially) the earning potential is severely reduced sometimes negated altogether.
In today’s market where music sales are extremely low, artists are losing their record deals, going independent and are more prone to release mixtapes rather than albums. Good for the artist, as they are able to keep giving music to fans and stay on the road, but a nightmare for producers.
While mixtapes are a great promo tool for artist, it leaves the producers, with little to nothing.
For one, mixtape sales are not monitored. In a traditional record release a producer is paid a producers advance in addition to royalties for every unit manufactured or downloaded. With mixtapes this isn't the case. For mixtapes, the artists rarely pay producer advances and do not pay royalties. Meanwhile, artist can get paid through bookings strictly off of mixtape buzz, performing the records you produced. Should the producer get paid? Yes. Then why doesn't it happen?
I'll tell you why.
Nowadays some (not all) artists are under the impression that quality production isn't worth paying for.
The reason for this is there is a new set of online producers who are leasing & selling exclusive rights to their beats for very low dollar amounts. They have been misguided into thinking that the internet has a pool of people paying for music, any by reducing the price you can sell more beats. Sounds reasonable but this really isn't the case, as most people, especially internet savvy people, hardly pay for anything online.
I've seen producers selling/leasing (?) beats for as little as $5 dollars and giving artist the right to perform at shows and press up 1000's of CD's. This is exactly why; no one wants to pay YOU for your beats. Your production peers have set the bar so low that YOU can't eat. A producer with a good track record in the industry can bypass this, but upcoming/new producers are left out in the cold. If an artist sold 20 CD's at .50, they'd make more money than you did, if you’re selling beats for $5. Smfh.
I ask you, is this fair to you as a producer? That your prodution peers are selling exclusive rights for a few hundred bucks, some cases even less. Exclusive rights? That means that you removed yourself from the future income royalty streams. Downloads, ringtones, radio, internet radio, etc.. Exclusive rights should almost never be granted and if they are, there should be high advance money to cover a portion of the potential revenue streams you might miss out on with stipulations that still entitle you to at least some of your royalties.
But Jug, "It's great promotion" or "I can get heard" or "I need to get it out there" or "Indie artist can't afford to pay", blah, blah blah.
For starters it is promotion. Is it great? It’s hard to say. Did you even get credited properly? Can other artist even find the producer if there are no credits? In most cases no one knows who produces anything on mixtapes as liner notes and credits aren't a requirement. Sometimes this is done purposely to keep you from getting any shine and more production work, which would create leverage for you to get paid. INDUSTRY BULLSHIT, but I digress.. You don't really think they want to see you come up now, do you?
Yes you need to be heard, but not for free. There needs to be some sort of commitment to paying you something for your music as the artist will be able to sell mixtapes (without you knowing) and do shows for whatever price they can get. Once your track is put out, it’s extremely hard to get someone else to pay for it. No one wants second and third dibbs on beats.
As for indie artist, they need to pay to play. While we understand that indie resources are limited, they have resources! Don't sell yourself short. You will be setting a standard and when an artist with resources comes calling, there's no reason for them to pay you, as you haven't charged anyone else significantly!

Gritty Love...And a Mixtape!

1. Prince Paul You Made Me (AKC)
Since it’s Prince Paul, we’re fairly certain there’s some kind of massively twisted inside-joke embedded in this beautiful instrumental. If you figure it out, please don’t let us in on it.
2. Pharohe Monch The Light
Monch’s “The Light” stands the test of time better than Common’s.
3. Pete Rock and CL Smooth Searching
This was a respectable rap ballad with an R&B hook in an era when any track softer than “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’” was readily dismissed.
4. Pharcyde She Said (Amsterdam Version)
The Pharcyde will be forever remembered for their obnoxiously overplayed ode to unrequited love but this remix of “She Said” by Jay Dee may be their finest moment.
5. The Roots f/ D’angelo The ‘Notic
On a superior remix that was curiously relegated to the Men In Black soundtrack, Black Thought longs for a reunion with an old flame while D’Angelo breathes new life into an Earth, Wind, and Fire chorus.
6. Count Bass D w/ Dionne Farris Seven Years
Rap tends to celebrate the excesses of bachelorhood but Count Bass D. and his MPC make settling down with wifey sound nearly as palatable as the fast life .
7. Eric B. & Rakim What’s On Your Mind
The God MC seduces a high-class queen with the irresistible combination of pure game and The Cosby Show, over a sample from ‘Curious’ by Midnight Star.
8. Boogiemonsters Honeydips In Gotham
Ugly sistas be quiet; this joint is dedicated to the cocoa-buttered down mocha-brown ‘dips you’ll see in Washington Square Park on a hazy day in June.
9. Bahamadia I Confess (The Roots Remix)
The Roots back their Philly sister Bahamadia’s incomparable flow and transform the cheesy original into the definitive fly love song.
10. A Tribe Called Quest Electric Relaxation
Ronnie Foster’s “Mystic Brew” was already shimmering gem even before the Tribe intervened.
11. OC Can’t Go Wrong
On his sophomore LP the D.I.T.C. wordsmith eschewed lurid tales of wayward bisexual temptresses for an espousal of devotion to his hypnotizing, mesmerizing high-school sweetheart over DJ Ogee’s understated but soulful production.
12. World Renown Butter Love
Yet another K-Def diamond-in-the-rough that never saw the light of day? You don’t say! Title says it all – neither Parkay nor margarine.
13. Jungle Brothers Black Woman
The most adventurous, least celebrated, and most spiteful Native Tongue affiliates take a break from bragging about their dicks to wax rhapsodic on love and respect.
14. Method Man f/ Mary J. Blige You’re all I Need (Razor Sharp Edit)
The next snap-hop YouTube rap star was likely conceived to the ghostly thump of this respectful interpretation of Marvin and Tammy’s haunting duet.
15. Rumpletilskinz Sweet Therapy
If you only caught their videos, you’d assume that life in Uniondale, Long Island consisted mostly of stomping through vacant lots but people there also fall in love.
16. Ghostface Camay
Admittedly, having a girlfriend who holds a managerial position at Paragon would be kind of ill.
17. Lost Boyz Renee (remix)
Finally, a song tailored specifically to legal scholar/thug relationships.
18. Goodie Mob Beautiful Skin
Quirkily romantic and yet convincing.
19. Black Star Brown Skin Lady
A song so good its horrific hook is soon forgotten.
20. Lord Finesee Let’s Get It On (instr)
We’re all sensitive people and we all need a cigarette/ wine break, right?
21. Guru ft. N’Dea Davenport Trust Me
Guru as nebbish fretting over his insecurities to a nurturing and sexy N’Dea Davenport; a romantic comedy on wax.
22. KMD Plumskinz
Peachfuzz or not, Zev Luv X. and co. needed to get theirs, too, and they did so, over a sample of Bobbi Humphrey’s scintillating “Black and Blues.”
23. Digable Planets Swoon Units
Think Jet Screamer wooing Judy Jetson in the midst of a hashish haze.
24. Lone Catalysts Ayanna Monet
Making a pass at Posdnous’ daughter in the future on some ol’ next shit.
25. Poor Righteour Teachers Shakiyla
Wise Intelligent kicks elevated game, Culture Freedom warbles.
26. Lord Finesse Gameplan
The original Funkyman suggests that he gets women “open like a Ceasarean” and still gets the drawers.
27. Devin the Dude Too Cute
You know the interludes in When Harry Met Sally where couples sit down to talk about how they almost didn’t get together. Imagine one of those but with a chick who probably is “too cute” and a stoner named Devin as the dude.
28. Al-Tariq Nikki
Post-Beatnuts and newly converted to Islam, Fashion is smitten by a sensational shorty.
29. De La Soul Eye Know
Otis Redding’s whistle, overt samples from Steely Dan’s ode to an, ahem, art film star, and good clean De La flirtation
30. UGK f/ Outkast International Players anthem
Andre’s whole verse especially “spaceships dont come equipped with rearview mirrors” outweigh the bravado from his concerned groomsmen.
31. Trendz of Culture Valley Of The Skinz
Vignettes of a “ghetto Romeo and Juliet” over hard drums and iridescent excerpts taken from Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine.”

Ice-T Shot Me In The Face & Eleven Other Stories about Rap Music.

Forget reading that four line blog post about Lil Wayne for a minute, and direct your attention to the first book from Toronto based freelance music journalist Luke Fox. This is perhaps the furthest thing from the inane, regurgitated micro-posting that music writing has become, with 12 feature length stories centered on some of raps finest, complete with subtle illustrations by Jeremy Wirth. Fox narrates up close and personal encounters with Kool G Rap, Ghostface Killah, Nas, Kanye West, Common and more, capturing their personalities with a well informed wit and style.

After spending 10 years as a staff writer and editor for Pound Magazine, Fox stockpiled a wealth of interviews with emcees, producers, and DJs, experience that shows in his fluid and confident writing. Ice-T Shot me in the Face & Eleven Other Stories About Rap Music is first and foremost written by a fan, offering a refreshingly hearty helping of edutainment, and a welcome departure from the new world of fast food music journalism.

RISING TO THE TOP WIT AGALLAH
After the B.I.G track, I built with AGALLAH about dropping some gems on the GRITTY. He got right back to me. Definitely a hustler and o.g in the game. Get Familiar!
You been around a long time when did you actually get started in the game?
15 YEARS AGO I GOT MY FIRST CHECK FROM TOMMY BOY RECORDS THEN IT WAS ON FROM THERE

I know you got a lot of mixtapes, how many official albums have you dropped?
TWO ALBUMS .WRAP YA LIPS AROUND THIS (1995) AND YOU ALREADY KNOW (2005)
I heard you on the PMD record back day how did that come about? What about Onyx?

We know this fucking entertainment industry is smoke and mirrors and snakes trying to sugarcoat shit, what has your experience taught you?
DON'T LET NO ONE TELL YOU YOU CANT DO SOMETHING. MY MOTTO IS TO ALWAYS STAY POSITIVE AND FOCUSED NO MATTER WHAT THE SITUATION IS.
2 cats you have good chemistry with are Sean Price and Ike Eyes, how did those relationships develop, these seem like more cats your cool with outside of the biz?
JUST LIKE YOU SAID , I HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM OUTSIDE OF THE BUSINESS . WE GREW UP TOGETHER . ITS DEVELOPED OVER A LIFESPAN ON AND OFF THE FEILD .
Something interesting I always thought of was if Agallah did a song with Killa Sha(R.I.P) because of the similar vocal styles, did your paths ever cross?
NAH I NEVER DID A SONG W SHA R.I.P BUT MY MAN HAVOC IS HIS FAM. MY CONDOLENCES GOES OUT TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY AT THIS TRAGIC TIME .

I know you been going at Jay-Z for a minute, what was the initial motivation?
THIS IS HIP HOP . A MC WILL CHALLENGE ANOTHER MC'S WORD IF HE FEELS WHAT HE SAYING OR DOING AINT RIGHT AND THATS WHAT IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO

Gritty Health Break:Juicing 101

We bought a juicer about 2 years ago and I admit I may not have used it as much as I should have but, we made a promise to our family that we would adopt a healthier lifestyle so juicing is our way of doing that.
Now having to juice veggies was a cool way to get my hubby to incorporate them into his diet, as well as fruit.
After getting pass the initial taste of things in liquid form that he nor I had even tasted in solid form we were off!!!
So I am going to make a conscious effort to post 1 juice recipe a week, along with the benefits and a tip to make Juicing easier for you.We did a lot of Googling at the Farmers Market to find out the benefits of certain fruits and vegetables.
Tip#1 Buy A Juicer(a good 1)

The juicer I bought was the Breville je900 Juice Fountain
the retail was 149.99 when I got it 2 years ago.You can find it for 80-100.00 on Amazon. The type of Juicer you buy is going to determine how often you use it.If its hard to clean or assemble and enables the process to be quick, you are less likely to do it on a daily basis.
Recipe #1
1 1/2 cups of Cherries
1 Beet Root leaves also
3 whole Red Delicious Apples
Start by rinsing all your fruits.Rinsing will remove harmful pesticides and chemicals even if you are buying all organic produce.
Drop in the 1 1/2 cups of cherries first,no need to de-pitt them a good juicer will separate or breakdown the pitt (or seeds)for you.
Add in 1 whole beet root, with the leaves as well the most vital nutrients in beets are in the leaves.Add in 3 Red Delicious Apples. You do not have to cut or seed them unless they are to wide to fit down the shoot.
After Juicing all ingredients mix with a spoon and pour contents into a blender with 6 ice cubes.Crush Ice to taste and blend to desired consistency.Best to drink any juice no more than 20 minutes after making it to achieve optimum strength of ingredients.
SN:the brand of Apples you buy will also determine taste. If you are using it to sweeten red delicious are the best. You may have to research the diff types of apples as well.

Benefits:
CHERRIES~Drinking just 250 milliliters (equivalent to about 1 ½ cups) of cherry juice will give you the same health benefits of consuming 23 different fruits and vegetables.Cherry juice is also a good remedy in relieving pain associated with arthritis. It’s not just the antioxidants in cherry juice that make it healthy, cherries contain a compound called anthocyanins, the pigments responsible for giving cherries their red color. (They also appear as purple and blue.) Researchers have found that anthocyanins are strong fighters against cancer, stroke risk and heart attacks.
BEET ROOTS~
One cup of raw beets is high in carbohydrates and low in fat. It contains phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and potassium, as well as fiber, vitamins A and C, niacin, folic acid, and biotinis.Beet Roots also detoxify your liver. The Beet roots green leafy tops are especially nutritious as they contain calcium, beta-carotene and iron.Because of their iron content Beet roots are known for their ability to help purify the blood.
APPLES~
Apples are excellent detoxifiers and apple juice can destroy viruses in the body. They also help fight Asthma,Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes. They are very high in fiber and it is believed that the antioxidants in apples may help promote weight loss.
There are so many types of Apples, here is a good general list of what you may find in the Grocery store.
Good Luck and let us know how this works for you. Try it Once a day for a week

Move Ova Ipad...Here comes Gesture Cube
Since Apple's Release of the Ipad I have been wondering what other wonderful gadgets would start popping up.I ran across this video from a German Company that is introducing its "Supped Up"version of the Ipad, called Gesture Cube.
What makes it so comparable is that you dont have to touch it...you just make a hand gesture and you can open full internet windows, browse music, look at/share pictures etc...

B.I.G(Brooklyn Is Gangster) - by Agallah

Agallah making some statements. I fux wit Ag, back in the day known as 8-Off the Assassin. Definitely a legend in the game. Still remember runnin with "The Mixtape Is the Album". Heavily slept on MC who most folks know from the Grand Theft Auto 3 Soundtrack. Brownsville, Brooklyn representative with the history to speak on it spits some gems going at Jay-Z. I heard it a couple days ago and was surprised at how quiet it was considering the fact that Ag is speaking on some heavy things. Especially the fact that not everybody is cool wit or thought it was clever when Hov said "It's no Biggie I'm just the king now" on the remix wit Snoop.. It was an awkward line at best with alot of people not peeping the subliminal. Some did tho' and Agallah is doing his part to make sure you all notice it. Definitely GRITTY!!!!!!!!!
Agallah also pointed out to me on twitter, that the word is indeed spreading.
Older track I dug up.

Copyright Criminals
Dope documentary on the culture of sample based music featuring guest appearances from a wide collection of artists including Hank Shock Lee, Shock G, El P, Bobbito Garcia, De La Soul, Mix Master Mike, and Clyde Stubblefield just to name a few. Ever since I first heard about this airing on PBS I've tried to locate it on the local tube, but have had no luck. Luckily, however, I just found it on youtube. Enjoy
